The origin of ELVEA makes us return to the year 1885, when the brothers Luigi and Francesco Vitelli emigrated from their birth village Torre del Greco to the United States. It was the era of the big migration wave from Italy to America, especially from the ' Meridione '. The nostalgia to the home country and the desire of the newcomers to preserve old uses and habits, creates a growing demand for Italian foodstuffs.
The Vitelli brothers first traded red coral and started afterwards with the import of canned foodstuffs from Southern Italy. The difficulties of the transport and the delicate techniques of conservation, made this trade a risky activity, but by their obstinacy the Vitelli brothers succeeded and set up an efficient distribution network. Today Elvea is the uncontested "numero uno" in Belgium in the category of canned tomato products.

Elvea double tomato paste is obtained from fresh tomatoes especially selected for their rich red colour (sun-ripened) and their homogeneous firm texture.

Elvea Cubes
A young and popular product.
It is only after 1978 that peeled tomato cubes become known as an alternative for whole peeled tomatoes. In the last few years this product has gained an important market share. It is a real "convenience" product for the industry as well as for the consumer.
Elvea tomato cubes have a nice red colour and a firm consistency of equal pieces offering unchanged organoleptic characteristics. They are completely free of peel and seeds.

Elvea Passata
The ideal tomato base. This is yet another tomato product that has seen a large expansion in the last few years because it is easy to use in the everyday kitchen. Passata is designed especially as a basis for all kinds of tomato dishes and is packed in several manners. Elvea offers glass and brick packaging. Glass is sterilised, followed by a steam treatment under atmospheric pressure which is cooled down to room temperature afterwards. This process offers longer durability of the product.
For the brick packaging one uses continuous sterilisation of the liquid product after which it is packed in sterile packaging. This process gives a highly nutritive and natural quality product by the use of HTST treatment as a result of which the quality remains preserved
